Happy October!
The DPC meeting for the month saw several new members join the group, and we’re all very happy to have you! Many thanks to Henry who presented “ISO and Histograms” during the Focus Ring session. Stay tuned next week when we announce the topic for next month.
Our POTM presentation from David Stakun (nice job as always, David) was on Robert Frank. Frank is well known for his gritty street photography. Though he was initially optimistic about United States society and culture, Frank’s perspective changed as he saw what he viewed as an overemphasis on money. Frank secured a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation in 1955 to travel across the United States and photograph the people of our country, and these images ultimately led to the publication of “The Americans.” During his travels, Frank met Beat writer Jack Kerouac and others who undoubtedly influenced his work.
Barry Wehrung coordinated another great slideshow featuring “member favorites.” Our club certainly has an abundance of talent! Great job everyone. Remember, the photo theme for November is, “The weird and/or unusual” which should lend itself to a very interesting show! Please email your 3 photos to Barry at bwwhdr@gmail.com by the end of October. As a reminder, send Barry jpeg files, 72 dpi with the longest edge at 1024.
Our main event this month was the lively and entertaining “controlled chaos” of a speed-critique session. We did a better job this time keeping the chaos part of it to a minimum, having the critiquers move from table to table. Members were then able to receive 6 different opinions on their collection of photographs. The critiques are meant to give members constructive feedback and to give them options to consider regarding composition, post-processing, vision and style. Feedback from your peers is a valuable asset so please be sure to participate in future events!
New members, remember to check the DPC Flickr page for upcoming themed shoots and other member activities. Our next DPC meeting will be November 7th at the church. Focus Ring will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the main club meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. See you there!
