Meeting Notes – November 2, 2009

The November Doylestown Photography Club meeting was a huge success. The club had a few general housekeeping items to start us off. We heard about the adventures of several club members who attended the New York Photography and Camera Show and enjoyed the opportunity to view all the new equipment. Next, we talked about Emmitt Gowan, the eminent Princeton University photography master who is retiring at the end of 2009. A tour and retrospective of his work is a possible club outing coming up soon.

The November field trip will be Street Photography in Philadelphia. The event will be on a Saturday, details to be forthcoming. Interested parties should plan on meeting Mort at the Warminster train station leaving at 8:41 a.m.

The group also enjoyed another of Drew’s Master Photographer presentations. The presentation covered the f/64 masters. Some notable members of this group include Ansel Adams, Henry Swift, Imogene Cunningham, Sonja Noskowiak and Edward Weston.

The club was extremely fortunate to have Guest Speaker David Tejada speak at the November meeting. David was in town for a 2-day Nikonian Mentor Series and was persuaded by our fearless leader Charley to meet with DPC. David moved from flight attendant to self-taught master, ultimately making an indelible mark on the corporate world of photography. David shared some of his amazing images, both corporate and fine art, as well as his techniques for using small strobes, speed lights, and ambient light to create images to suit his vision. David’s ability to direct the viewer’s eye and control subject-driven lighting was an inspiration to us all.

After the Holiday party in December the DPC will welcome another guest speaker in January. Stay Tuned!
