When and where does the Club meet? The club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, during the months September through June. We do not meet in the summer July and August. Our meetings are held at The Photography Place, a professional working studio located at 4000 Saw Mill Road in Doylestown, PA 18902. Please see the bottom of this page for driving directions to the studio.
Are there membership dues? Yes, membership dues are $50 per year (September – June). Dues are paid in September and February. In September the dues are $50.00 and in February the dues are $25.00. Both amounts are applied to the remaining months following the respective period.
I’m just starting out with photography. Can I still join? Yes! Our current membership is comprised of photographers of all skill levels, from amateur to professional. We strive for an open, learning environment where those with more experience can share their knowledge and all can share their passion and enthusiasm for the art of photography.
I shoot film, are there members that also use film who can help me or will I feel out of place? A number of our members shoot film, many shoot digital, and a few shoot both on a regular basis. In addition, our membership runs the gamut of formats: P&S, 35mm/DSLR, roll film, and medium/large format.
What can I expect from my membership? The meetings are full of enlightened information. We narrow our discussions to keep each month focused on a particular theme. Together, we provide support for almost any direction in photography and the encouragement and motivation to set a plan, achieve your goal and follow your path.
I see photos being displayed before the meetings and during the break. How can I get my images shown? To submit your photos, they need to follow these submission guidelines:
- Saved as 8 bit jpeg files, with the longest dimension no larger than 800 pixels in size.
- Please use the sRGB color space (this should be the default for most cameras and editing software).
- Photos should be marked with the member’s name on the photo itself, along with the copyright symbol and the year it was taken.
- The file should be named with the month, the member’s first initial and last name, and an image identifier (e.g. Nov_scrowers_image1.jpg)
All submitted files should then be compressed as a single “zip” file (named with the month, member name, and the word “images” (e.g. Nov_scrowers_images.zip), and emailed to Charles Callaghan at ccallaghan@thephotographyplace.com and cc’d to Steve Crowers at steve@stephencrowersphotography.com. Please limit your monthly submissions to 3 images at most.
Do you do things beyond the meetings? Yes, we conduct field trips, attend shows, participate in shows, and further members’ interests in photography.
How do I become a member of the Club? Contact us here and submit the annual dues ($50) to P.O. Box 2106, Doylestown, PA 18901. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
