January’s meeting had everyone seeing RED. The topic for the monthly challenge that is. Thank you again Barry for your entertaining selection of music to accompany the slide show. February’s challenge theme: Winter. Our winter weather has been unpredictable to say the least, so let’s see what other ways you can capture “winter.” Please submit your images to Barry at bwwhdr@gmail.com This month’s Focus Ring, presented by John Jacoberger, was on monitor calibration. The club has purchased Color Monki calibration software that it will allow members to use for free. For more on how this will work, watch for a Flickr post from John. Dave Stakun promised a different realm of photography for future POTM presentations, but he felt he could not end the tribute to those photographers who explore the weird and unusual without including Diane Arbus. Diane Arbus became best known for her photographs of “deviant and marginal people.” Thank you, Dave! You were right. This topic would not have been complete without her. Our feature presentation was An Image Three Ways (well, actually four). Henry graciously supplied one of his images for Steve Monastra, Chris John, and Sharon Mason-Parker to demonstrate that one image can be interpreted many different ways. Henry opened the demonstration with his vision for the finished photo. Steve showed what could be accomplished in Photoshop, Sharon shared with us what can be done using Nik plug-ins, and Chris John demonstrated the Topaz plug-in from his vast library of plug-ins. The final result, a beautiful image done 3, better make that 4 ways. Thank you all! Barring any weather issues, we will be back on our regular meeting schedule for the February meeting; Monday, February 6th. The Focus Ring will be presented by Tim Ryan with an intro to Photoshop basics. It will start at 6:15pm. In addition to our monthly challenge and the POTM, we are pleased to have Salvator Vasapolli as our guest speaker. Hope to see you next month, The Steering Committee Please note – due to the proximity of New Year’s Day, our first club meeting of the year will be moved to
Monday, January 9th. It will be at the Covenant Church as usual.
Focus Ring in January will be presented by John Jacoberger, and will start at 6:15 pm. at the church location.
John will demonstrate how to use an image calibration system to calibrate your monitor. The club will
purchase a global site license to ColorMunki and make this available complimentary to club members! This is a
great value we’re pleased to offer the club. Keep your eyes on Flickr for more details!
Don’t forget, your assignment for the month of January is to submit 3 images under the theme of “Red.”
Please submit your images to Barry (bwwhdr@gmail.com) by December 31st.
This month, our main event will feature a demonstration / discussion called, “One Image, Three Ways.”
The purpose of this presentation is to show how one image can be perceived very differently, and to begin
demonstrating post-processing techniques. We will feature one club member who keeps things very natural,
using Photoshop to maximize an image, one member who often takes images to their creative maximum, and
one who tweaks the images with the use of filters and plug-ins. This session was created after reading the
recent survey results, showing our club membership would like more assistance with post-processing.
Don’t miss it—we hope to see you on January 9th!
